On being informed that attempts are being made to populate railway recruitments in Maharashtra with outsiders by subjugating Marathi youth, Raj saheb raised voice against it in a social program in Mumbai. Information about the state railway recruitment was being given not in Maharashtra – thereby keeping the local people in dark, but in the state (Bihar) to which the railway minister belonged, bringing in avalanches of migrants for recruitment here. On realizing this collusion, the Maharashtra (Navnirman Sena) warriors started aggressive protests. This action for the rightful employment of the native, local people turned out to be the first state-wide movement of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. Following this, a few so-called national TV channels started nastily criticizing Raj saheb, and this movement, without understanding the party stand and demands of the native people. Anti-Maharashtra sentiment was ignited all over the country, leaders whose vested interests were hurt brought tremendous pressure, and on 22 October 2008, Raj saheb was arrested in Ratnagiri on charge of making provocative speech. The arrests fetched severe reactions in Maharashtra. Raj saheb was released in order to avoid public insurgency. But Raj saheb was prohibited by the then government from public speaking. Still, Raj saheb continued to stand for the lawful rights of the native people, and campaigned for them. On the parallel, Maharashtra (Navnirman Sena) warriors were protesting at various levels. This struggle went on for a number of months.

Finally, the succeeding Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee conceded that the stand taken by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena was fair, and drew an order that the local / native people shall get job opportunities on priority. This order was the triumph of the movement conducted by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The next step after this successful battle was that of providing appropriate training to the locals. As soon as any advertisement for job recruitment would appear, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena would organize Recruitment Guidance Workshops in various parts of the state, and provide complete information of enlistment procedure to candidates. Till date, more than 2000 native candidates have been employed in Railway Services because of the persuasion by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

In 2015, the Railway Recruitment Board had tried to disregard candidates from Maharashtra by allotting only 2 places to Central Railway out of a total of 2204 in the circular published covering multiple designations. The panel of Maharashtra Navnirman Railway Labor Front (Sena) immediately met with Railway Administration. They sought clarification on the matter. When a warning for vigorous action was given, an advertisement was published within a month in Marathi dailies declaring staffing opportunity for 500 places especially in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is constantly vigilant and committed for the lawful rights of the native people.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena initiated a mission against unauthorized rickshaws and taxis, as well as unlicensed drivers. Vehicles surveys were conducted in major cities, licenses were checked, and a shocking reality emerged from it. Thousands of rickshaws and taxis that we were trusting for commuting were illegal.

At last when all the data was shared with the traffic wing of police department, those thousands of unauthorized vehicles were destroyed. Later on, in 2016, when the dispensing of rickshaw and taxi licenses was announced, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena launched strong movement to ensure that the new licenses will be issued to the local, native people.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena organises employment gatherings all over Maharashtra. We offer openings for self-employment in many places. In order to make women self-reliant, the party distributed 100 auto rickshaws in Mumbai, helped 156 women in Thane to acquire rickshaw driver license, we started sewing classes along with sewing machines for making our widow sisters and mothers financially independent; and also encouraged small ventures through ‘Konkan Navnirman Mahila Audyogik Sanstha’ (Konkan Rejuvenation Women’s Industries Association) to make wages available to the women of the region.

We came out successful in organizing job fests and providing employment to thousands of young men and women in all districts like Sindhudurg, Sangli, Raigad, Pune, Nasik, Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Yavatmal, and Latur.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena promptly provides support on the ground whenever candidates and students raise protests for recruitment problems, in order to support their movements. Many times, the President of MNS Shri Raj saheb Thackeray personally, along with other leaders and dignitaries of the party reach out to the agitators on location, open a dialogue with them, and ensure that the protesters’ demands are delivered to the government – may it be the ‘Rail Roko’ (Stop the Trains) movement of the trainee students from Central Railways, or the demonstrations of the teacher-staffing candidates.

‘Maharashtra Navnirman Labour Front’ is relentlessly busy for lawful rights of the workers. We ensure that the labour class gets justice by sometimes deploying labour law as the weapon, and at others by holding up demands of the native people as supreme. Other bodies under the umbrella of Labour Front, such as ‘Maharashtra Navnirman Cine Workers Association’, ‘Maharashtra Navnirman Railway Workers Association’, ‘Maharashtra Navnirman Aviation Workers Association’, ‘Maharashtra Navnirman Municipal Corporation Workers Association’, ‘Maharashtra Navnirman Electricity / Power Workers Association’ etc. keep fighting for lawful rights of the native people and bring justice to them.
