28th July 2020 । Mr. Raj Thackeray’s letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra

People have lost their jobs and in such an atmosphere of turbulence, wherein there is no ray of hope in sight, these unreasonable bills are a further attack on the vulnerable citizens.

Shri, Uddhav Thackeray
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra

Heartiest Greetings and Jai Maharashtra!

During the crisis period caused by the coronavirus pandemic, one very crucial issue has been either neglected or the intensity of the citizen’s feelings has not been acknowledged.

Keeping this anguish faced by the citizens in mind, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena wishes to highlight this pressing issue to the government.

Be it the private electricity companies, Mahavitaran or BEST; all of them have been issuing unreasonable bills. The bills for the month of June have been preposterous and the common man is in a state of shock.
The bills issued for the months of March, April, and May were based on an average of usage. The next two months of June and July saw an exorbitant rise in the billing and the reason was given was that the deficit of the previous months was being adjusted.

How can this action be ever justified? This tantamounts to ‘looting of the citizens’ Due to the lockdown, commercial places were closed and yet the bills issued for them are exorbitant. As it is, this lockdown has drained the economy and many businesses have shut down. Salaries are either not being given or there are huge salary cuts. People have lost their jobs and in such an atmosphere of turbulence, wherein there is no ray of hope in sight, these unreasonable bills are a further attack on the vulnerable citizens.

These are unprecedented times and due to this, the citizens and other political parties have wholeheartedly supported the state government and we will continue to do so. However, this issue is unwarranted and please do not be under the impression that either the citizens or Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will remain quiet.

There is definitely a financial crunch in our state and we understand that. But, this is not the manner to find a solution by burdening the citizens in such an unreasonable way.
Keeping this injustice in mind, the Chief Minister should look into this matter on a war footing and waive off the unreasonable increase in the bills and also ensure no one is compelled to pay this in the future as well.
The state government should issue an order regarding this issue to the Mahavitaran and BEST and other government undertakings. Also, the private electric companies need to be firmly directed to stop this unjustified conduct, otherwise, we will be compelled to deal with these private companies.

This is a very sensitive issue that we are dealing with and I am sure that the government will handle this issue in a compassionate manner.

Humbly yours,
Raj Thackeray
